Areas of Expertise
I have researched and published widely on a range of
issues relating to the following broad areas and have gained a national
and increasingly international reputation in these:
- racism and race relations;
- inequalities in education, especially in relation
to social class, gender and 'race'/ethnicity;
- children and prejudice in the early years (particularly
racism and also sectarianism in the context of Northern Ireland); and

and development.
I have also gained extensive experience, more generally,
in:

ethnography, focus groups and indepth interviews
- the use of quantitative methods, both
in terms of routine statistical analysis and the use of advanced
multivariate techniques
- the design and analysis of major baseline surveys
- the evaluation of children's services, particularly
using randomised controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs
