  About Me

General Overview

I am currently Professor of Education within the School of Education, Queen's University Belfast. My main responsibilities include:

  • Founding Director of the NFER at Queen's Centre for Educational Research - a research centre that has attracted over £3 million of external research funding since its launch in July 2005. More information.
  • Founding Chair of the Queen's Initiative for the Promotion of Effective Interventions for Children - a cross-university initiative that has been established with an initial investment of £2.7 million and that aims to encourage inter-disciplinary research into the design, delivery and evaluation of services for children based on a children's rights perspective.   • Founding Co-Director of the Joint Learning Initiative on Children and Ethnic Diversity (with Prof. Tony Gallagher) - a major new international initiative funded by the Bernard van Leer Foundation aimed at promoting evidence-informed approaches to the design, delivery and evaluation of early childhood diversity programmes in areas characterised by ethnic divisions and/or conflict.   • Series editor of a new social research methods book series with Routledge. Further information to appear shortly.
